Fix Windows 7 Blue Screen - How to Repair Windows 7 BSOD

Probably the worst thing that can happen to a Windows 7 user is to get a BSOD or blue screen of death. This is when your computer suddenly flashes a blue screen and displays some text then either reboots, hangs up or shuts down. You will not get to save any of your work and anything you have been doing goes up in smoke.

In reality, the Windows 7 blue screen is an essential safety measure. It acts as protection against further damage to your computer by halting error-prone software and hardware and restarting it before the issue gets worse. Here are a few quick things you can do to fix your Windows blue screen blues.

Cool down your computer. BSODs are often due to heating issues inside your computer. For desktops, try investing in a better cooling and fan system. For laptops, a cooling pad will do wonders in reducing the temperature of your system.

Fix Windows 7 Blue Screen - How to Repair Windows 7 BSOD

Add some RAM. Some programs need more memory space to run so adding RAM not only gives your computer a much needed boost, it also helps keep the dreaded blue screen at bay. For certain Windows 7 machines, you can also use the system's ReadyBoost and add memory by just plugging in a USB 2.0 flash drive.

Fixing the Registry. The registry is essentially your operating system's index for your PC. One wrong entry in it will cascade into catastrophic failure. There are some readily available registry cleaners on the market and some even have robust scheduling and automated repair features that will help keep your registry clean at all times.

Again, we cannot stress enough that fixing your registry manually is both dangerous and difficult. Any mistake in editing it by yourself can cause some of your programs to stop running or worse, it can permanently render your computer inoperable.

Your best bet is to use a reliable and trusted registry cleaner to do the job for you. Not only will it automatically fix the Windows 7 blue screen, it will also speed up your computer considerably.

Password Recovery on the Cisco ASA Security Appliance

In this article, I'll explain how to perform a password "reset" on your Cisco ASA security appliance. The more commonly used term for this procedure is "password recovery" which is left over from the days when you could actually view passwords in configuration files in plain text. Today, such passwords are encrypted and not actually recoverable. Instead, you will gain access to the appliance via the console port and reset the password(s) to known values.

This procedure requires physical access to the device. You will power-cycle your appliance by unplugging it at the power strip and plugging it back in. You will then interrupt the boot process and change the configuration register value to prevent the appliance from reading its stored configuration at boot. Since the device ignores its saved configuration on boot, you are able to access its configuration modes without passwords. Once you're in configuration mode, you will load the saved configuration from flash memory, change the passwords to a known value, change the configuration register value to tell the device to load its saved configuration on boot, and reload the device.

Caution: As with all configuration procedures, these procedures should be tested in a laboratory environment prior to usage in a production environment to ensure suitability for your situation.

Password Recovery on the Cisco ASA Security Appliance

The following steps were designed using a Cisco ASA 5505 Security Appliance. They are not appropriate for a Cisco PIX Firewall appliance.

1. Power-cycle your security appliance by removing and re-inserting the power plug at the power strip.

2. When prompted, press Esc to interrupt the boot process and enter ROM Monitor mode. You should immediately see a rommon prompt (rommon #0>).

3. At the rommon prompt, enter the confreg command to view the current configuration register setting: rommon #0>confreg

4. The current configuration register should be the default of 0x01 (it will actually display as 0x00000001). The security appliance will ask if you want to make changes to the configuration register. Answer no when prompted.

5. You must change the configuration register to 0x41, which tells the appliance to ignore its saved (startup) configuration upon boot: rommon #1>confreg 0x41

6. Reset the appliance with the boot command: rommon #2>boot

7. Notice that the security appliance ignores its startup configuration during the boot process. When it finishes booting, you should see a generic User Mode prompt: ciscoasa>

8. Enter the enable command to enter Privileged Mode. When the appliance prompts you for a password, simply press (at this point, the password is blank): ciscoasa>enable Password: ciscoasa#

9. Copy the startup configuration file into the running configuration with the following command: ciscoasa#copy startup-config running-config Destination filename [running-config]?

10. The previously saved configuration is now the active configuration, but since the security appliance is already in Privileged Mode, privileged access is not disabled. Next, in configuration mode, enter the following command to change the Privileged Mode password to a known value (in this case, we'll use the password system): asa#conf t asa(config)#enable password system

11. While still in Configuration Mode, reset the configuration register to the default of 0x01 to force the security appliance to read its startup configuration on boot: asa(config)#config-register 0x01

12. Use the following commands to view the configuration register setting: asa(config)#exit asa#show version

13. At bottom of the output of the show version command, you should see the following statement: Configuration register is 0x41 (will be 0x1 at next reload)

14. Save the current configuration with the copy run start command to make the above changes persistent: asa#copy run start Source filename [running-config]

15. Reload the security appliance: asa# reload System config has been modified. Save? [Y]es/[N]o:yes

Cryptochecksum: e87f1433 54896e6b 4e21d072 d71a9cbf

2149 bytes copied in 1.480 secs (2149 bytes/sec) Proceed with reload? [confirm]

When your security appliance reloads, you should be able to use your newly reset password to enter privileged mode.

Data Recovery - You Can Get It Back!

Data recovery is a process whereby you can save data and
files you accidentally deleted, had eaten by malicious
software or viruses, hardware failures, corporate espionage
and many more scenarios. Most people believe that when the
hard drive crashes their world ends also, but that's not
usually the case. In fact 85% of the time the data is
recoverable, and at far less trouble and expense than you
might fear at first.

It's a wonder something that spins at thousands of times a
minute doesn't crash more often than they do, what with all
the abuse we heap upon them. When's the last time you did a
dust patrol near your drive ports? Hard drives aren't the
only data that can be saved too. Zip drives, floppies,
DVD's, CD-ROM's and more can be rescued. And sometimes the
worst of disasters will yield up results. Technicians
regularly extract data from computers that are burned to a
crisp. Admittedly this is trickier and more expensive, but
it can be done. On woman had her Apple Powerbook sink to the
bottom of the Amazon, whereupon tiring of waiting for the
salvage operation, she promptly donned her scuba gear, swam
down to the sunken boat and retrieved her precious files.
She then mailed the whole mess to DriveSavers and they
managed to save most of her data, despite being submerged
for three days!

Most recoveries aren't nearly as sexy, and can usually be
resolved with a software solution, usually by the client his
or herself. Off the rack data recovery software is quite
good and relatively inexpensive, especially when you
compared to the cost of dealing with replacing the lost
files. Most data recovery issues stem from human error,
roughly 25%. A software solution can run you anywhere from
-0, whereas if the problem is too difficult and you
have to box it up and send it out, expect to pay between
0-00, with the average price of 00.

Data Recovery - You Can Get It Back!

The key to remember is that deleted data is usually not gone
forever, just maddeningly misplaced. The good news is that
recovery can be a mouse click away!

How To Repair The Acer D2D Recovery

This tutorial can also help to do it on other computer brands

Disclaimer : First of all you must be aware that some of the operations to come can cause irreversible change on your hard disk, I recommend to you and I will never make it enough make a backup of your system before launching you in any hazardous operation. Any damage and/or modification done on your system will be under your whole responsibility. The following procedures were done on a Acer Aspire 5102wlmi and some also functioned on a Dell Inspiron 9400/1705.

As you know, the Acer computers and those of other manufacturers are now delivered with a system of restoration installed in a hidden partition of your hard disk. This system launches out while pressing keys ALT+F10 simultaneously. And sometimes for various reasons this system ceases functioning.

How To Repair The Acer D2D Recovery

The first cause often comes owing to the fact that function D2D Recovery is disable in the bios (menu principal).

The solution : enable the function and try to press keys ALT+F10 during the starting of the computer.

The second cause : in this case hidden partition PQSERVICE was erased or damaged, or you replaced the disc and in this case it is not present.

The solution : If you did not previously make a backup of your system by making an image disc. It will not be possible to use the D2D recovery. Your only hope will be to have in your possession Acer Recovery CD/DVD.

And the third causes : the Acer Master Boot Record (MBR)was damaged or replaced by non-Acer MBR. As long as partition PQSERVICE is present or that you can put the hand on the necessary Acer files you can reinstall the MBR of Acer.

The solution :

First method : on a functional Windows system:

1 disable the D2D recovery option of the bios.

2 open a Windows session with an account administrator.

3 Download, unzip and launch partedit32(registration required for download).

4 Identify the Pqservice partition by its size (at the bottom of the partedit window there is a partition information box) it is a small sized partition approximately 2 to 6 Go.Once made change the type of your partition into 0C and save. Restart and open a session with an administrator account, you should be able to navigate to the PQservice partition. Seek these two files mbrwrdos.exe and rtmbr.bin once localised open a command prompt and launch this command mbrwrdos.exe install rtmbr.bin, this will install the Acer MBR. Close the command prompt window restart again Windows go into the bios and reactivate the D2D recovery. Now ALT+F10 should launch Acer recovery at the starting of the computer.

Second method : On a nonfunctional Windows system.

For that you must use a Linux distribution (for me Mandriva provided all the tools necessary).

1 Boot on the Mandriva install CD/DVD the boot menu will give you the possibility to repair or to restore the Windows boot loader.

2 If that is not enough launch an installation of linux(this will be an occasion to test this terrible OS) and choose LILO as boot loader(a boot menu that allow you to choose between several operating systems) once finished the installation. Restart your computer in the boot loader menu system you will have at least 2 Windows options the first generally point to PQservice choose it and you will boot directly into acer D2D recovery.

The last solution is the simplest one, just note that during the Linux installation you will have to resize your Windows partition to create a place for a new Linux partition it is the most perilous part because irreversible, therefore take your precautions at this time.

Hard Drive Repair Using Free Software

Contrary to popular belief, if a computer does not boot due to hard drive corruption all data is not lost and the hard drive may even be repairable. There are 2 types of hard drive damage. One is fixable by you and the other requires a professional data recovery facility.

Physical Drive Damage - Physical damage is the worst. Data recovery can only be done by professionals and can cost up to ,500 (sometimes higher). Physical damage usually consists of bad actuator arms, damaged platters or fried controller cards.

Non-Physical Drive Damage - Non-Physical damage (NPD) is what we're going to be discussing in this article. NPD occurs when the operating system's file system (fat or ntfs) gets corrupted due to an improper shutdown (for example). While this damage is may seem really bad (if it's preventing you from booting your PC), it's easily fixable with some software that's already including in any Windows PC and a USB external hard drive enclosure.

Hard Drive Repair Using Free Software

Here are a list of items that you'll need to follow the instructions below:

Another working computer with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Find out what kind of hard drive you have. There are 2 types. SATA (small flat connector) and PATA (a.k.a IDE) which has a connector with about 30 pins. An external USB hard drive enclosure with a connector for the type of drive you're going to be connecting to it (you can grab one of these at BestBuy for about USD).

Please follow the steps below to perform a non-physical repair (software repair) on a non-bootable hard drive.

1. Take the drive out of the computer.
2. Connect the hard drive to the connector on the USB enclosure.
3. Connect a USB cable from the enclosure to the computer that's working.
4. Power on the USB enclosure.
5. An external drive will probably load in your list of available hard drives. You can see this list by opening "My Computer" or "Computer". Take note of the drive letter for the external hard drive.
6. Now it's time to load a program called CHKDSK (Check Disk).
7. Click Start (if you're on Windows XP) or click the Windows globe (on the bottom left for Vista and Windows 7).
8. On Windows XP click RUN, then type CMD. On Windows Vista and 7 type CMD where it says "Search Programs and Files". This will open a black command prompt window.
9. In the command prompt type chkdsk "the drive letter you want to check": /r and press enter. So here is an example chkdsk g: /r then press the enter key.
10. This process can take hours. I've had a few that took days.
11. If this command completes successfully your drive should be repaired enough for you to recover the data from it and you might actually be able to boot from it again.

A word of warning. If your drive ever has any errors on it (bad sectors) it's reached the end of it's life and should be replaced ASAP. You'll be able to see this in the report provided to by the chkdsk command at the end of it's scan.

What Is Medical Payment Data?

Many people are confused when they get a copy of their credit report and see a collections for "Medical Payment Data". This is seen when someone obtains their credit report with a third party involved, such as applying for a mortgage or at the car dealership. This would not be shown if you were to obtain your report on your own without a third party.

When you see Medical Payment Data on your report, you do not contact them. Because in reality there is no "them" to contact as it is just a term denoting a medical collections on your credit report.

This is done in order to protect the individual's name requesting the credit report, due to federal privacy laws. What your next step would be is to call the credit bureaus that list the collections on medical report. When you call the credit reporting agencies, they can inform you who currently owns the debt.

What Is Medical Payment Data?

Once you receive the information from the credit reporting agencies you can contact the medical collection agency directly. This is because they are the owners of the debt and the hospital is out of the picture now. It is not fully known how the credit agencies treat different debts, but it is thought that hospital debt is not as bad on your credit report.

Certainly if you are working with a human reviewing your application such as at a small bank or car dealership you may have some leeway with having medical payment data on your credit report. This is because it may show you had extenuating circumstances. This especially helps when no other collections are on the report.

If you feel this is harming your credit profile you can work with the collection agency in removing the bad mark off of your report. Usually the longer it has gone unpaid, the worse it gets, to a point. When a collection is a few years old it has already done its damage. If you can pay the collection agency right after they obtain it from the hospital you may be able to avoid it going onto your credit report at all.

The older the debt is, the more, the less you should offer to pay off the debt. A debt that is multiple years old you only may offer a fraction of the original bill. If the debt is new, you may pay the full amount or close to it. The best thing to do is have the ding completely removed, this would help your score the most. If not you could at least have the bill on your report marked paid in full.
